The disputed image features a model wearing what appears to be a long braid and traditional-style long garment while holding a pair of scissors — an ensemble that critics say evokes negative historical stereotypes. The backlash quickly spread across Chinese social media platforms.

4月26日,LEMAIRE發布官方聲明致歉:
我們關注到近期圍繞Objets Senteur系列中Tresse物件及其呈現方式所引發的討論。Tresse為一款以手工編織亞麻制成、用于承載香氛的器物作品。對于此次器物與影像表達所引發的疑慮、不適與困擾,我們在此致以誠摯的歉意。
我們也意識到,在此次發布與呈現過程中,我們未能充分考慮不同文化語境下可能產生的感知差異與敏感性。作為一個面向全球、多元文化受眾的品牌,我們深知在創意表達中應承擔更審慎的責任。相關反饋對我們而言十分重要,我們已著手對內部流程進行反思與調整,以進一步提升文化意識與責任感,并盡力避免類似情況再次發生。

On Sunday, the French fashion brand apologized.
"We sincerely apologize for any discomfort caused," LEMAIRE said in a statement. "We failed to consider how the image might be perceived in different cultural contexts. We are reviewing our internal processes to prevent this from happening again."
The brand also thanked its Chinese audience for their honest feedback.
