The 25th IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (IEEE ITSC 2022) is the annual flagship conference sponsored by the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society, with the theme of "Blockchain-based ITS: The Human Use of Cyber-Physical-Social Transportation Systems". This Distributed Hybrid Conference (DHC) starts from September 19 and lasts to October 7. During this period, a total of 145 Distributed Hybrid Conferences will be held in an orderly manner.
On September 20, ITSC 2022 arranged in a distributed hybrid way and held TWO Special Sessions and ONE Workshop of almost all frontier research and hot topics in the field of intelligent transportation, in terms of Trajectory Prediction and Decision-Making for Autonomous Vehicles, Artificial Intelligence for Traffic Signal Control, Optimization and Scheduling Problems, Scenario Engineering. 3 session chairs and 18 session presenters gathered to share their recent work and perspectives, related to advanced blockchain-based intelligent transportation systems.
Agendas of September 21 is announced as follows:
Special Session 23: Trajectory Prediction and Decision-Making for Autonomous Vehicles
Session Chair:Chen Lv (Nanyang Technological University)
Schedule: 11:00-12:30 (Beijing time), September 21, 2022.
Abstract:
Autonomous vehicles will need to interact with different types of traffic participants and infrastructures for navigating in complex real-world conditions. The real-world challenges require autonomous vehicles to predict future trajectories of its surrounding agents, make proper decisions accordingly, and control the motion in a smooth way. The prediction task is challenging since that the future motion of a moving agent is affected by many factors, such as its own dynamics, the local map, and its surrounding agents, and that the future motion of agents are multi-modal in nature. The decision-making and motion control parts are also challenging since that autonomous vehicles need to share the road with heterogeneous traffic participants, follow traffic rules, and meet the demands of passengers. Beyond that, it is important to properly combine these multiple modules for establishing a safe and smart autonomous driving system. Therefore, predicting multi-modal motions of heterogeneous agents and making proper decisions and implementing smart control are of great significance and worth exploring. This special session aims to provide up to date research concepts, new methodologies, and practical solutions that could contribute to trajectory prediction, decision-making, motion control, and their integration for autonomous driving.

Special Session 22: Artificial Intelligence for Traffic Signal Control, Optimization and Scheduling Problems
Session Chair:Kaizhou Gao (Macau University of Science and Technology)
Schedule: 17:00-18:30 (Beijing time), September 21, 2022.
Abstract:
Traffic signal control is an important part of an intelligent traffic system, which consists of two optimization problems of signal timing and traffic distribution. It uses road signal lights to control and regulate the traffic flow in a traffic network to improve traffic flow and reduce traffic congestion. The traffic signal control problem is a complex optimization problem whose solution sets signal control parameters for all intersections based on the traffic flow demand of a traffic network, such that the overall performance of the road network reaches a desired user equilibrium state. Traffic signals have been extensively used to manage traffic. Their optimal control can effectively improve traffic safety and greatly reduce traffic congestion. There are various complex problems in Traffic Signal Control, Optimization and Scheduling. The aim of this special session is to bring together researchers from both academia and industry to present the latest developments of artificial intelligence for traffic signal control, optimization, and scheduling problems, exchanging new ideas and discussing open research questions and future directions.

Workshop: Scenarios Engineering for ITS
Session Chair:Xuan Li (Peng Cheng Laboratory)
Schedule: 20:00-22:00 (Beijing time), September 21, 2022.
Abstract:
Scenarios engineering (SE) is defined as an integrated reflection of the scenarios and activities within a certain temporal and spatial range, where all actionable intelligence systems are encouraged to complete the design, certification and verification. It aims at shaping the intelligence systems to be a form that is more relevant to the underlying scenario that will be learned and tested. The benefits brought by scenarios engineering for supporting real experiments or simulations in the field of intelligent transportation system (ITS) have already been recognized by many companies and academic institutions worldwide, as confirmed by the huge investments and the large number of publications made in this field. From the perspective of SE, the research in this field could help the design and implementation of novel and standardized testing protocols that could help to increase the users' acceptability. Moreover, approaches able to compare and evaluate the fidelity of the simulations will provide fundamental data to drive the development of ITS. The wide spectrum of possible SE applications will inspire interesting studies with the Parallel System, DAO, Metaverses, Robotics and Blockchain to build a trustworthy and sustainable ITS world.
As we approach the time in which scenarios engineering will become fundamental for a wide range of applications in the field of ITS, the goal of workshop is to discuss state-of-the-art research activities targeted to next-generation ITS and related infrastructures, reporting the latest developments in standardization and regulation, as well as reporting services and applications envisaged for the considered domain.
Key words: Scenarios engineering, SE, Intelligent Transportation System
