豐田北美CEO Ted Ogawa證實，基于暢銷SUV車型RAV4打造緊湊型皮卡正在考慮中，以填補福特Maverick所在的市場空白。
據(jù)Automotive News報道，Ogawa在采訪中表示："RAV4-based pickup is an opportunity for us, and the dealers are waiting, but it takes time." 這款潛在新車將采用第六代RAV4的TNGA-K模塊化架構(gòu)，該車型目前僅提供混動動力，包括2.5升四缸標準混動（最高236馬力）和324馬力的插電混動系統(tǒng)。
豐田規(guī)劃與戰(zhàn)略負責人Cooper Ericksen此前向MotorTrend確認，小型皮卡項目已確定推進，"It's not a matter of 'if' at this point. We're dedicated to it." 2023年曾有報道稱豐田考慮基于卡羅拉打造緊湊型皮卡，但最新表態(tài)顯示RAV4平臺成為更可能的選擇。
豐田目前在美國市場提供Tacoma中型皮卡和Tundra全尺寸皮卡，均采用非承載式車身結(jié)構(gòu)。相比之下，RAV4-based皮卡將采用承載式車身，定位城市通勤用戶，價格門檻更低，與福特Maverick形成直接競爭。
